We Found Gold!

Alaska, Road Trip, States

Literally! And figuratively. It’s been a fun day. We’re in the Land of the Midnight Sun and we just had to get up in the middle of the night just to see the daylight out of our hotel window. We rode on the Binkley Family’s Discovery III on the Chena River. We saw sled dogs, reindeer, seaplanes, smoked salmon, native crafts, and more. After a lunch and explore in downtown, we stopped by the Alaska Pipeline Visitors Center before we visited the The El Dorado Gold Mine and enjoyed the showmanship of Yukon Yonda and Dexter Clark. We all found gold in our pans! Later, after a trip to North Pole to visit Santa, we ate our fill at the Alaska Salmon Bake.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
