Winchester Mystery House

California, Family, States

Do you know the way to San Jose? While poking around in gift shops on Tuesday we found a postcard of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California which both Meg and Steve had heard about so we opted to drive down early Wednesday morning. It’s a fascinating 160 room mansion built over 38 years without a master plan. Construction was carried on 24 hours a day 7 days a week! The place and the story behind it are fascinating. We toured 140 of the rooms and much of the behind the scenes including the basement! Finished up with lunch and a quiet afternoon at home. In the evening we ventured into Redwood City for dinner at Citrine and tiramisu at La Tartine.

Over a long weekend we sampled some of the myriad things to do in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, unique among national parks for it’s environmental reclamation, historic preservation, and recreational opportunities adjacent to the populous cities of Cleveland and Akron in northeastern Ohio. Can’t wait to return and explore more.

Slow Journey Home

Our journey from Portsmouth, England to our home in Ohio might have been accomplished in about sixteen hours but my avoiding air travel we were able to enjoy a fifteen day journey home via train, ship, Uber, train, as well as our own feet and finally our personal vehicle.

Big Repair, and finally the Mary Rose. All were incredibly informative and well presented.
