By Way of Colorado Springs

2008 West--35th Anniversary, Colorado, Road Trip, States

We finally caught up with our absentee ballots at the Jackson’s home in Santa Fe. Filling out our ballots and getting them into the mail was our first order of business. Then after a light repast at Las Chivas we headed north on I-25 through Raton Pass and into Colorado. We made a stop in Colorado Springs at the Van Briggle Pottery. We were too late for a tour but were able to peer through the windows to see pots at various stages of preparation. We’ve been Van Briggle fans for many a year and now after Karen’s months in the pottery studio at The Arts Center it felt a bit like a pilgrimage. We sustained ourselves with delicious ribs at the Front Range BBQ then completed the drive into Boulder, Colorado.

While you did your voting our family got two feet bigger. Baby Jack was born at Bayfront at 1059 and has gotten better and better every minute since then. He’s home with us and Gram and Pop-pop comes in tonight. Gram stayed with the kids last night so John and I could vote. When we returned home Alex said, “I wish I could go vote!” Keep blogging, we’re enjoying your adventures.

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
