It felt good to get out of the traffic and head out of town. We enjoyed seeing Hoover Dam but this time we didn’t take the tour. We arrived at Grand Canyon in the middle of the afternoon and headed for the Visitor’s Center to get a little information on how to maximize our time in the park. We took the bus to the Bright Angel Lodge then walked the Rim Trail to Yavapai Point to watch the sunset. It was magical. This visit was all too brief but it gives us more to look forward to when we next visit the Grand Canyon. After dark we drove south to Flagstaff for an overnight.

I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to read this sooner. I would have suggested that you visit Bryce Canyon along your travels–really spectacular formations. Put it on your “calendar” for next time.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
