We left Flagstaff and traveled I-40 along a stretch that was more or less the path of the old Route 66. We got off the highway to visit the Petrified Forest National Park. Wow! It was awesome being in the presence of beautiful rocks that were trees 255 million years ago. The northern portion of the park includes the incredible Painted Desert. Then on through Gallup and Albuquerque and north to Santa Fe where we met brother-in-law, Bill, for dinner and a beer at Brumby’s, an Aussie pub, and spent a very comfortable night as his house guests.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Over a long weekend we sampled some of the myriad things to do in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, unique among national parks for it’s environmental reclamation, historic preservation, and recreational opportunities adjacent to the populous cities of Cleveland and Akron in northeastern Ohio. Can’t wait to return and explore more.
