Emerging from the Train

Road Trip

We arrived at the Greenville station right on time. Jef, our porter, true to his work knocked on the door of our roomette shortly before we were to arrive at the station. We rose, got our stuff together and made our way to the back of the sleeper car. Jef retrieved our baggage and helped us down onto the station platform right at 4:54 AM. With that we made the transition from the cocoon of the sleeper car to the world outside. We walked right to our car, loaded our bags, and began the final leg of the journey home. Although it was good to sleep on the train, it was still good to catch a two hour nap in our own bed once we arrived home. Then on to other matters. We unpacked, did laundry, retrieved the farm fresh vegetables our neighbor had left on our doorstep, and unpacked the boxes UPS had left for us. We ordered archival quality document cases that we will use to organized all of our genealogy papers. The Boston Adventure is behind us and now we have another Adventure ahead of us right here at home.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
