Remembering Ken

Family

Our very good friend Ken Wynsma passed away this evening. We first met in early in 2006 as Steve was learning the basics of silversmithing at The Arts Center in St Petersburg. Ken quickly became not only a mentor in the art of working metal but a treasured friend. Over the next couple of years we spent many happy hours together both at The Arts Center and elsewhere. We discussed all manner of things from the arts to the sciences, personal philosophies, religion, politics, and everything else. Often these discussions would occur over a beer or two at the Northeast Tavern or Courigan’s after open studio sessions. Other times we’d head off sometimes on the spur of the moment to listen to our favorite Irish singers or on planned excursions to art shows or friends’ houses. He was part of the fun at our last few Deck Days in St Petersburg. We truly loved his fun loving spirit and will always treasure the friendship we share with him. Ken, may you have peace and happiness, and even more fun now.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.

Bletchley Park

Bletchley Park

It was at Bletchley Park that the Allied Codebreakers deciphered German military messages during the Second World War. A free guided tour gave us a good overview of the campus and the activities that occurred here from 1938 to 1945.

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

Fenton House and Spaniards Inn

A lovely way to spend a Sunday in Hampstead. We visited the historic Fenton House to view lots of lovely collectibles, to listen to and learn about harpsicords, and to tour and linger in the garden before heading off to the historic Spaniard’s Inn for a most delectable Sunday Roast.
