Eleven Eleven Eleven

Family

Such a fun date! Such a beautiful day! It dawned cool and crisp with the moon setting in the west just as light was appearing in the east. Cool enough that even by late morning we had ice on the deck. We spent a good amount of time today working on organizing genealogy files and transferring information from the old blog to the new one. These have been our major activities since we got home from Ohio Monday night. But we also took time out to move our furniture back onto the newly stained deck. Rather than stain it ourselves this time we decided to bolster the local economy and found a great couple of painters willing to do it for us. It looks so nice and finished now.

Also made ourselves a yummy midday meal of vegetables and sausage on top of spaghetti squash. The squash, tomatoes, peppers, oregano, and sausage were all local or home grown foods. Only the olive oil, the onions, and maybe the garlic were bought in the supermarket. We are so enjoying the availability of quality local foods!

We finished off the day with dinner with friends at St John’s in Waynesville.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
