A Day for Exploring

Road Trip

We ventured into Cherokee today and discovered a gem. The Oconaluftee Institute for the Cultural Arts. We had seen a flyer about an exhibit of work by T.J.Holland and decided to go check it out. We ended up getting an extensive personal tour of the institute which was founded by the Cherokee and administered by Southwestern Community College. Then because we were right there we visited Harrah’s, the casino on the reservation. It’s like wandering into an alternative universe. Big and beautiful and totally alien. Then this evening we headed in the other direction and checked out the action at the Maggie Valley Inn where dancers gather every Thursday evening. Got a chance to get out onto the dance floor and kick up our heels! And get to know some folks a little better.
