While we are in Boston we have two major methods of working on genealogy. We can go to some of the excellent libraries nearby or we can use Greg and Rachel’s excellent bandwidth and work online. Â We have been debating on whether to make the drive to Waltham and do some research on family military history at the National Archives. Â Instead we took advantage of an offer to join Fold3 online. Â Among other things we have found a court document from 194 years ago certifying that Karen’s ancestor Alexander Oliver fought in the Revolutionary War. It’s so amazing to be able to do that while sitting on the sofa in the living room!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
There is a trap in genealogy called
“The names’s the same” and I fell into that trap. This is a different Alexander Oliver. Oops! Got to look for the one who moved to Ohio after The War.
