St Thomas Virgin Islands was today’s port of call. Loren, Ed2, Jeff, Jean, and the two of us got a taxi to Blackbeard’s Castle. We climbed to the top of the lookout tower and admired the view, checked out statues of famous pirates, clowned with a modern version of a Caribbean pirate, walked the 99 steps, admired amber in the museum, drooled over the amber waterfall, and indulged in a drink they’ve been serving since 1829. Blackbeard’s Revenge boasts five different rums in one drink. It’s tasty but powerful. Since we shared drinks we did have enough steam to walk back to the ship and on the way stopped to admire a watercraft named Blackbeard’s Revenge as well as an iguana. Back aboard The Ruby we took advantage of some of the martini offerings at Crooners before partaking of Afternoon Tea with Ed2 and Loren. Then there was time for a little rest before dinner and dancing!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
