Lunch in Key Largo

Florida, Road Trip, States

After a delightful chat with our neighbors across the way, we broke camp and headed out of Everglades National Park and south on US-1. We’re in new territory. We lived in Florida for fifty years and never visited the Everglades NP or the upper Keys. It’s a pleasant and short drive from Homestead to Key Largo. We just sort of poked around a little bit getting ideas for ways to visit in the future but felt a bit hampered with the trailer behind. We did get a fabulous Seafood Burritos lunch at Snappers in Key Largo.  The local brew was good too. Then we headed north on US-1 into Miami then over to Miami Beach and up A1A. We must be crazy. It was a gorgeous day and with the windows and the sunroof open we enjoyed the sun-drenched glory of Miami but were glad too to escape the frenzy. Ended up camping on a tiny overflow lot about 15 feet from US-1 and three feet from the restrooms in the smallest KOA in the country, in downtown Ft Pierce. Grateful for a place to park the camper but not anxious to stay long.

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
