Deck Day is Done

Family

Deck Day is never complete until the 3D puzzle is complete. Once long ago the puzzlers were determined to finish the 6 ft tall Big Ben puzzle and persisted until it was finished at 2AM. Somewhere there is a photo of the persistent puzzlers, the completed tower, and the grandfather clock in the background with the face showing the time of completion. This time however as Deck Day participants dispersed they boxed up the holographic horror that had been the puzzle this year. One participant however was not satisfied. Our friend Ed, a Deck Day regular took the puzzle home with him and stuck with the project until he finished it. He claims it is one of the early triumphs of his new “retirement”, Thanks, Ed! Now Deck Day is done.DSCF2991

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
