Haywood Roads

Family

IMG_5496Curiosity on Lou and Peg’s part as well as our own lead us to a day of exploring Haywood County, Gateway to the Smokies. We started with a breakfast at Balsam Mountain Inn. We were the only ones on the dining porch and were offered one breakfast option: eggs strata served with bacon, fresh fruit, and blueberry muffin. It was delicious. The historic inn looks better than the last time we were there, the once and current owner Merrily Teasley is doing wonderful things with this lovely old inn (http://www.balsammountaininn.net/balsam-mountain-inn-returns-to-teasleys-ownership/). Then on to downtown Waynesville for a bit of poking around at City Bakery, Mast General, and more. Lunch at Anthony Waynes’ (We go there for the creative and delicious food.) was followed by poking around Haywood roads looking at the various types of neighborhoods and architectural styles. Across the line into Jackson County we poked around in Balsam before making an ice cream stop at Jack the Dipper (made to order waffle cones!) and on back to the house for a simple dinner. Fun day!

Winter Magic in Medina

Winter Magic in Medina

By deliberate choice we were in Medina for all the winter holiday festivities from Candlelight Walk in the days before Thanksgiving through A Christmas Carol and A Celtic Christmas as well as an Alex Bevan Concert and a historic house tour all the way through Medina’s 31st Ice Festival but perhaps the highlight was the town hosting hundreds of folks whose homes and lives were devasted by Hurricane Helene at the A Promise of Christmas Event the middle of January. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing community!

Savoy at Sea 2025

The warmth we anticipated when we headed to the Caribbean in mid-January didn’t really materialize but the fun we had with our dancing friends and the great crew of the Margaritaville at Sea Islander more than made up for the not so favorable weather.
