We’ve spent a couple of days here at the adjacent parks at Kings Mountain in South Carolina just south of the border, close to the RV dealer. The plan was to use this as a shakedown visit. We’re identifying some small issues with the trailer and it will be an easy trip back to Country Camping Corner to get things rectified. As we camp at the state park, we are enjoying the Kings Mountain National Military Park here. History buffs that we are we are doing a good job of getting our heads into the mindset of men who lived and fought here more than two centuries ago. The Revolutionary War in the South was really a civil war. The King’s men were Loyalists. This battle was the only major battle of the war that was fought almost exclusively by Americans. It’s the burial place of Patrick Ferguson, the Loyalist commander, who was instrumental in the development of the breech loading flintlock rifle. The staff also demonstrate textile arts and we amazed them by recognizing an inkle loom and being able to demonstrate the use of a drop spindle. We reflected on the fact that our original plans had been to visit numerous national parks this summer and depending on how things go, this could be the only away from home NP we will get to visit. We loved it!

Winter Magic in Medina

Winter Magic in Medina

By deliberate choice we were in Medina for all the winter holiday festivities from Candlelight Walk in the days before Thanksgiving through A Christmas Carol and A Celtic Christmas as well as an Alex Bevan Concert and a historic house tour all the way through Medina’s 31st Ice Festival but perhaps the highlight was the town hosting hundreds of folks whose homes and lives were devasted by Hurricane Helene at the A Promise of Christmas Event the middle of January. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing community!

Savoy at Sea 2025

The warmth we anticipated when we headed to the Caribbean in mid-January didn’t really materialize but the fun we had with our dancing friends and the great crew of the Margaritaville at Sea Islander more than made up for the not so favorable weather.
