Sunflowers, Butterflies, and Birthday Cake

Family

We spent a quite enjoyable evening with friends. Deb and Pete plied us with delicious food and drink. Then we got to tour both their back and front yards with all the landscaping they have added since our last visit. Anne grew glorious sunflowers this summer and there are a few still surviving in the summer heat. Al’s butterflies are in all sorts of wonderfully whimsical places. There’s a frog’s house and a white ceramic pig. There’s blueberry and raspberry bushes and a delightful freeform patio sitting/grilling area. Then the four of them surprised us with birthday cake and champagne. The fact that the cake was scratch made and hand decorated by Anne made it even better. It was a great evening.

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.
