Camping World, Lockport, Genesee Country

2013 New England, New York, Road Trip, States

Gave another tour of the camper. We thought we’d do fewer of these once we moved out of the teeny teeny tiny trailer but it seems we’re getting more interest that ever before. Once we were on the road we headed to the outskirts of Buffalo and Camping World. It’s sort of a supermarket of camping/RV gear. We found a few fun things that should make life in the T@B even better. From there we decided to skirt Buffalo and head up to Lockport. It’s locale that Steve has been hearing about all his life. His mother visited cousins there many times and Steve remembers visits to Cincinnati by his Great-Aunt Katherine from Lockport. Actually we believe that Third Cousin Peter still lives there. Based on records in the Research Files on our genealogy site we located three addresses associated with family history. As we were leaving town we paused for a phone call and discovered two things. The first is that it is fun to take an ice cream break by just going back to the camper and scooping out some “Everything But The…” and that there was a local AAA office across the street. We took the opportunity to learn more about the area before continuing east and ending the day at the Genesee Country Campground where we met more friendly people who were fascinated with our little trailer.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Over a long weekend we sampled some of the myriad things to do in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, unique among national parks for it’s environmental reclamation, historic preservation, and recreational opportunities adjacent to the populous cities of Cleveland and Akron in northeastern Ohio. Can’t wait to return and explore more.

Slow Journey Home

Slow Journey Home

Our journey from Portsmouth, England to our home in Ohio might have been accomplished in about sixteen hours but my avoiding air travel we were able to enjoy a fifteen day journey home via train, ship, Uber, train, as well as our own feet and finally our personal vehicle.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

It’s been a fascinating two day visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. We managed to pack in tours of the HMS Warrior, the HMS Victory as well ast Victory Live: The
Big Repair, and finally the Mary Rose. All were incredibly informative and well presented.
