We left Sacandaga this morning with some angst about finding a campsite this holiday weekend with out reservations. Last night the rangers who had checked us in told us to come back to the rangers station in the morning and they would help us get a reservation at one of the sites further north in the Adirondack Park such as Lewey Lake but the ranger we talked to this morning was not so accommodating. She did give us directions to three campgrounds on Old Piseco Road and suggested that Point Comfort might be the best choice. So off we went. We pulled into Point Comfort around noon and scored Site #3 on the lake side. Beautiful view from our camper window! Only downside was that just after we arrived our across road neighbors began arriving. Several families, all with children, all friends of one another together for a great group campout. They were really enjoying their gathering but the noise level interfered with our enjoyment of a wonderful little spot on the lake. Late in the day we walked to the beach to watch the sunset and the oncoming night. We were grateful for the rain that started at eleven that night. Suddenly the laughter and conversation as the party broke up and all sought the shelter of their tents. Ah! The wonderful quiet!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
Hope you’re planning on visiting the Adirondack Museum not too far from Blue Mountain Lake, as long as you’re up that far north! Wonderful place, and then the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. If you’re going further north again, you’re not too far from Cranberry Lake and Star Lake, where Pete’s brother lives. Great time of year to be up there! Enjoy!!
