Wineries and Covered Bridges

2013 New England, Ohio, Road Trip, States

We signed up for another night on Site 42 here at Geneva State Park. Back at the site we gave our Skamp owning neighbors a tour of our T@B, checked out the Lake Erie Beach, then headed into Geneva on the Lake for a Cheeseburger in Paradise. Eddie’s is an open air, been there since 1950, restaurant in a Gatlinburgesque resort town. It was a decent burger and cute surroundings. We’ve heard that the things to do in town are the wineries and the covered bridges. So we tried to find the best of each. We went to the Harpersfield Winery right out in the middle of their vineyards. We sampled a few of their wines then got a glass each and chilled out in Adirondack chairs under an apple tree while we imbibed. While snacking on bread and cheese we followed directions to the Harpersfield Covered Bridge, the longest one in the area. Back at camp we took our chairs out to the beach and watched bathers, boaters, swimmers, and a homemade airplane until sunset.

In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
