Starline Rhythm Boys

2013 New England, Road Trip, States, Vermont

We broke camp this morning and headed toward Glens Falls and beyond into Vermont. We found a campsite at Duxbury Country Store and Campground, a tiny little place but we still had folks who wanted to see our little camper. We ended up running late for our trip into Northfield but once there had no difficulty locating the street dance and the Starline Rhythm Boys in the Village Square. And Jean Elizabeth found us as we walked up. She and friends John, Joan, and Sally had driven over from the Burlington area to dance to the strains of JE’s favorite swing band. It was such a fun evening dancing at a New England Labor Day Festival on a perfect late summer evening!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
