Barrier Island Living

Florida, Road Trip, States

We’re settling here in Cape Canaveral. We’ll be here for six nights total. Considering that our usual campground stay is one or two nights, this is a long one. The lifestyle is a bit like we had when we lived in downtown St Petersburg but the beach is closer. Today we walked to Publix for groceries then later in the afternoon went for a long walk on the Atlantic side stopping at Hogan’s Bar for a Guinness each before heading back to camp and sitting on the bank of the Indian River to watch the sunset.

We’ve walked that beach many times! Always a thrill to see the launch pads off in the distance. Don’t forget a stop at Ron Jon’s, always fun!

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
