Old Friends in Old Florida

Family, Road Trip

20140217-000813.jpgWe and Gary, our friend of 40 plus years, traveled down to the banks of the Bradenton River today to visit with Art & Lynn, our friends of thirty plus years. While Lynn was busy with a previous commitment, we and Art went to lunch at Linger Lodge, an unusual restaurant that offers a healthy taste of Old Florida. As we were walking in we heard a greeting behind us and turned to see JP and Midge, our friends for ten plus years! We six enjoyed a delicious lunch then the four of us returned to Art and Lynn’s lovely home situated on land that’s been in the family nearly a hundred years. It’s a place that reminds us of an earlier era in Florida history. Lynn was there by then and we all enjoyed a visit that lasted for many pleasant hours. Thanks, friends, for opening your home to us.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
