“Pickled” Weeds

Family

ngredients:
1 Driveway full of weeds, preferably young and tender
1 Gallon White Vinegar
1 Squirt Dish Detergent
1 Sunny Day
Mix the vinegar and detergent in a spray canister. Use to spray on the leaves of the weeds in the driveway (or mulch bed, or in between stones in the sidewalk). Then wait patiently for the vinegar to “pickle” (or kill) the weeds. May repeat once or twice at weekly intervals if necessary. Also useful for killing the green algae that grows in shady areas on the deck and north wall of the house. (Wish we’d known about this back in the Woodlawn days when we regularly rented a pressure washer to clean the brick sidewalk out front.) it’s effective, inexpensive, easy, and environmentally friendly!

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
