Unexpected Encounter

Family

Carol took us on w a walking tour of the historic Fairmount Neighborhood of Fort Worth where she and Dick live. On a warm June day it’s only appropriate to seek some iced refreshment after a while so she guided us to Avoca Coffee Roasters. They also offer incredible iced tea, brewed by the glass after you order it. While we were sipping on said delight, we looked up and recognized Del! We first met him during his Tampa days when Greg brought him to Deck Day. We last saw him in Boston. He now teaches in Texas not far from Fort Worth. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to spend with him this trip but we promised that now that he is on our map that we’ll make plans with him on another trip through and he may try to make plans for Deck Day at Tween Creeks!

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
