A Food & Friends Fest!

2014 West then East, Road Trip, States, Wisconsin

As we were winding down our Olbrich visit Nancy asked us to decide which wonderful Madison eatery we wanted to visit for lunch. We chose The Chocolaterian then she made arrangements for more friends to meet us there. We three and Jim & May spent a most salubrious two and a half hours visiting with one another and sampling the delicious savory lunch items and wonderfully chocolate offerings. Their hot chocolate is unlike any other! Our plans had been to leave late afternoon to head up to John & Karen’s cabin. Instead we opted to be fast, fluid and flexible and moved our rig to Nancy and Toby’s driveway and to join the gang for an impromptu dinner party. Toby fixed an incredible appetizer with the lake trout he caught in Lake Michigan today. Mary served up a chilled cucumber soup containing ingredients from her and Jim’s garden and fresh corn on the cob. John brought fresh purple asparagus. Nancy supplied the perfectly done burgers and incredibly fresh Kaiser rolls as well as the ever so yummy chocolate peanut butter dessert. Of course there were libations of various sorts including an allspice liquor that John made that was wonderful. But the best part was the camaraderie, the stories and the laughter, not to mention the setting of Nancy and Toby’s beautiful lakeside home! It’s hard to believe we are here among these friends that we met so many miles away on a cruise ship in the Caribbean!

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
