Traveling between Barstow and Bakersfield it’s hot, flat, dry, and forbidding with mountains in the distance. We drove through the town of Boron, the home of the largest borax mine in the world and the Kramer Junction Solar Generation Facility. We’ve passed Twenty Mule Team Road, Edwards AFB, the alternate space shuttle landing site, lots of stored airplanes at the Mojave Airport, and the Alta Wind Energy Farm near Mojave CA. Not to mention cactus!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
