Not the tropical island of Rum and Coca Cola fame, but a delightful northern California beach town. We hiked to and explored the one of the state park beaches with impressive rocks and volcanic sand then sought out an indie restaurant that served delicious seafood – great fish and chips and a wonderful smoked salmon and avocado sandwich topped off with an ice cream sundae made from local dairy sources. Ended the day soaking in the Finnish Country hot tubs behind Cafe Mokka in Arcata.
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
