Wading the Trout Stream

2014 West then East, Road Trip, States, Wisconsin

After all that fun on the water we all agreed it was time for some sustenance so we changed into dry clothes and headed into town for the best burgers in town at The Thirsty Beaver. With good food in our bellies we changed back into or wet togs for a walk in the trout stream. Though some of John’s friends might view this as a challenge to be met or a hurtle to overcome, we saw it as a wonderful opportunity. We do a similar kind of thing at home and offer the experience to our summer visitors. There’s something wonderful about walking through chilly water on a warm summers day checking out the fish and the plants along the bank all the while watching your footing and occasionally getting wetter than planned. We walked quite a way then reversed our direction. Actually we were more disappointed than relieved when the bridge where we had put in came into view. We finished the day with grilled brats, incredibly delicious local corn on the cob and red wine.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
