A Witch House Visit

Family

After a leisurely start involving coffee out on the deck we got ourselves motivated for a trip into town for provisions but first we had to take the “short”hike up the mountain to see the witch house. Actually with all the work that Wayne, Ceil, and their son have done in recent years the house no longer looks totally abandoned but it is still unique and fun to visit. After that our day included a trip to Waynesville and Mast General Store and a belated anniversary dinner of steaks on the grill and wine brought back from the anniversary celebration in Florida. It’s wonderful to have Bill and Lou finally here to visit in our mountain retreat.

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
