SAFF, the Southeast Animal Fiber Fair is an annual event at the Ag Center in Asheville. Fiber growers and vendors come from all over the Southeast and even a few from the Northeast for a glorious three day event. And folks who spin, dye, knit, crochet, weave, and felt flock to the festival in large numbers. This year Karen went and was there all day Friday to volunteer in the Fleece Show and Sale and to do some shopping. Serving as recorder for the Mohair Judge and as an Assistant for the Wool Judge was an opportunity to learn more about what to look for in a fleece. As far as the shopping she came home with some Merino roving and a batt of some luxury white fibers for spinning as well as a product to hopefully improve the process of washing raw fibers. She was successful in resisting the urge to buy an Icelandic fleece even though there was one in her budget range. Maybe next year!
