Surprise Reunion!

Family

IMG_3347-1.JPG
A while back we made plans to get together with longtime friends Stan & Elaine today while they were in the area for a family celebration, but we weren’t expecting that we’d also get to visit with Phil & Vera! We were so thrilled to see them when we walked into Clyde’s Restaurant and saw them seated with Stan & Elaine. Phil, Stan, and Steve were best buddies in high school. Phil’s sister Elaine and Vera were good friends back then too. Karen was the latecomer to the group. All three of us couples were married in the early seventies. We visited back and forth a lot in our early married years then not so much during the busy child rearing, career building years. Just as we were ready to start reconnecting with Phil &Vera they moved from FL to MD. We’ve stayed in touch but haven’t seen them since ’99. So just a lunch at a restaurant wasn’t enough. We moved the party to our deck then crafted an impromptu dinner of sausages on the grill and continued the visit in the dining room. The only one missing was the fourth musketeer, Chuck & his wife Terry. It was a glorious reunion!

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
