Magical Scene

Road Trip

It’s magical scene! That storm that passed through yesterday dropped snow north of here, but here just northeast of Atlanta it dressed the trees in ice. For miles we’ve been delighted by the vision of these trees backlit by the sun against a bright blue sky. We’ve never seen anything like it. It’s amazingly gorgeous. Temp is still well below freezing at 22F but the truck is occasionally pelted by falling ice. The frustration is that we are on the interstate and it’s not safe to stop for photographs.

Yes! We’re on the move. Left Tween Creeks around noon. Snow on the ground. Temp of 11F. Yeah, it sounds like a good idea to head for a family celebration in the Big Easy.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
