Abandon Hope…

Family

Vivian  has fond memories of a drive on Heintooga Round Bottom Road and  was anxious to see it again. It’s a 28 mile drive on a one way road that feels like a trip on the Appalachian Trail. We always tease as we pass this sign, “Abandon hope all ye who enter here.” Perhaps we will make it to the other end.

Great drive. We have taken many of our family members down this “trail of no return”. One time as we were coming into Cherokee, we were met by some horseback riders. What fun that would be! Another year a motorcycle driver passed the daring sign and turned off his engine – he coasted down in silence and enjoyed the beauty.

If memory serves us correctly, we did one of the one way auto trails together way back when we stayed at Ward’s Cabins and explored GSMNP with our wee ones.

I think you are right. Jessica was an infant so that was 33 years ago. Oh my.

Do you remember the “Snop!” on the way to that frigid hike to the Clingman’s Dome tower?

Yes. I was so excited to see snow. When I think about the combo of snow and stop, I still laugh.

Cozumel & Grand Cayman

Aboard the Norwegian Jewel we’ve made stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Georgetown, Grand Cayman to explore beyond our previous experiences here. Soon we’ll be making our way to ports we’ve not yet explored in the Southern Caribbean.

Winter Magic in Medina

Winter Magic in Medina

By deliberate choice we were in Medina for all the winter holiday festivities from Candlelight Walk in the days before Thanksgiving through A Christmas Carol and A Celtic Christmas as well as an Alex Bevan Concert and a historic house tour all the way through Medina’s 31st Ice Festival but perhaps the highlight was the town hosting hundreds of folks whose homes and lives were devasted by Hurricane Helene at the A Promise of Christmas Event the middle of January. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing community!
