The Duke Story

Road Trip, States, Tennessee

A couple of years ago when we were staying at this KOA, some folks staying near us told us about the fun they’d had at the Bush’s Beans Factory Museum. It’s been on “our list” ever since.

The museum/visitors center shows a film not about Duke, the dog who knew too much, but about the history of the Bush’s general store and cannery business. There’s a virtual factory tour and many displays about the history of the mercantile and food industry over the last century and a quarter.

There’s a bit about historical preservation and a bit about needle crafts. Perhaps the most endearing part of this customer relations enterprise is that vistors get to go home with a photograph of themselves and Duke, the Bush family dog!

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
