Forty-nine years ago this summer Steve was part of a party of four who hiked the Appalachian Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from CosbyCampground to Newfound Gap and back again. This afternoon Steve returned to Cosby for the first time. It was a trip down memory lane as he contemplated  the landscape and tried to recall where they had camped and what trail they had taken to connect with the AT. It’s a beautiful campground and ten degrees cooler than the neighboring communities. It’s a potential for our base camp next summer when Steve and Stan plan a 50th Anniversary Hike.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Over a long weekend we sampled some of the myriad things to do in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, unique among national parks for it’s environmental reclamation, historic preservation, and recreational opportunities adjacent to the populous cities of Cleveland and Akron in northeastern Ohio. Can’t wait to return and explore more.

Slow Journey Home

Slow Journey Home

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

It’s been a fascinating two day visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. We managed to pack in tours of the HMS Warrior, the HMS Victory as well ast Victory Live: The
Big Repair, and finally the Mary Rose. All were incredibly informative and well presented.
