As a break during our trip to Kenwood Towne Center we paused at the food court for some 3-Way Gold Star. Out of curiosity we looked up the history of this brand of Cincinnati Chili. According to Wikipedia, Gold Star originated in 1965 as Hamburger Heaven in Mt Washington is the newest brand. Skyline originated in Price Hill in 1949 but apparently Empress is the granddaddy of them all dating back to the 1920’s. as a tidbit of information, according to the author of The Authentic History of Cincinnati Chili, chocolate is in fact not an ingredient in any of the commercial recipes! Of course we’re not limiting our Cincinnati food fest to chili this trip. We’ve had some awesome salads at LaRosa’s, this morning’s breakfast included goetta, albeit homemade but from an adaptation of the Dottie Dorsel recipe, and to top it off, three trips so far to the Finneytown Graeter’s! Yum!
Burgh House Hampstead
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
