Another Day in Paradise

2015 New England and MidWest, Michigan, Road Trip

The little community of Paradise is just north of the mouth of the Tahquamenon River and east of Tahquamenon Falls on MI-123. We go through Paradise to get to anywhere up here and is the location for any of the services in the area. One gas station, two mini grocery stores, two restaurants, several lodgings, a public library, and a school with ten students! We did a little more exploring around the area today. Geocache searches lead us along a cross country ski path and to the former site of a cabin overlooking Cabin Lake.

And we visited Camp 33. It’s a commercial area not technically a part of the state park but intrinsically tied to the history of the park. The park is on land donated by logging baron Jack Baron. Today the establishment is run by his grandchildren. We enjoyed a couple of tasty meals and some Black Bear Stout at the Tahquamenon Falls Brewery and Pub. Back in Paradise stopped by the gas station for some dark chocolate and to top off the tank before we set off for further U.P. adventures tomorrow. We finished up the daylight hours with a hike along the river at sunset.

We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.
