Red Wing, The Mississippi, and Propane

2015 New England and MidWest, Minnesota, Road Trip, Wisconsin

After breakfast today we were thwarted in our efforts to make a second cuppa. The stove wouldn’t light. Sure enough, we’re out of propane!  A Google search and a phone call later and we added Lakes Gas Company in Hager City WI as an interim destination to our day’s plan. Our route took us through Red Wing MN, home of Red Wing Shoes, and across the Mississippi. Once at Lakes Gas we had our two propane tanks filled in a jiffy and were on our way south to Pepin.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
