Road Trip

  

Trains all day, trains all night. A couple times an hour trains rumble by. Trains going north, trains going south. Trouble is, we are just a little bit south of a railroad crossing that requires the engineer to sound his whistle. Day and night. We’re learning that there is variation in the sound quality of train whistles and the shrillest we’ve heard was at about three o’clock in the morning!

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
