Breakfast in the Preserve

Florida, Road Trip, States

A propane campfire, a mug of perked coffee, and a bowl of sausage scramble. It’s a most salubrious outdoor breakfast. The weather doesn’t quite qualify as warm, but it’s not driving us inside the T@B for shelter either. It’s the first time this trip that we’ve felt comfortable lingering out of doors. Later this morning we’ll do some exploring of the Payne’s Prairie and Micanopy area. It’s just south of Gainesville and just east of I-75 that we have traveled past so many times but have explored so little. Perhaps there are geocaches to be found. And Yelp! advises us there is excellent Southern BBQ to savor.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
