From Ebbing to Oconaluftee

Family

Errands yesterday and today took us into Dillsboro and Sylva where all the buzz around town is about the filming next month of a couple of minutes of the dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Sassyfras Furniture Store is being converted into the Ebbing Police Department with a Welcome to Ebbing sign on the side. Our friends at Freeman Gas will be assisting in the special effects when the police department is blown up.

Leaving Ebbing behind we traveled to the Oconaluftee Visitors Center in Great Smoky Mountain National Park to replace Karen’s parks pass and to rejoin Friends of the Smokies. The trip home included a repast of gyros at Kosta’s, the Greek restaurant in Dillsboro. Yum! And a copy more stops to get materials for projects around Tween Creeks.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.
