Funk & Wagnalls

Family

Folks of a certain age may remember the admonition broadcast from “beautiful downtown Burbank” to “look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls!” Actually at the time of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, Steve’s family had a copy of the Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia on their bookshelves. In the same era the two of us had the opportunity to each add a copy of the Funk & Wagnalls Standard Desk Dictionary to our personal libraries as an asset during our university   studies. Since then Steve’s copy has gone the way of all good things but Karen’s copy continued to occupy a place on our bookshelves. Neither of us can remember the last time we consulted the pages of this tome since it is so very easy to check the definition of any unfamiliar term with the powerful electronic device on our pocket. The time has come to let the Funk & Wagnalls vacate the space in our library but even if the book is gone, the great memories will remain!

In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.
