Knowing before we left home that we would have plenty of time to grab lunch at one of the chain eateries in Penn Station but the timing might be tight to wander out onto neighboring streets and indulge in more authentic NY cuisine, we opted for the yummier. We walked the approximately half mile to Friedman’s on 31st Street. Yes! The food was great, the service friendly, the atmosphere genuinely NY. We were back to the station in time to spend half an hour in the holding pen fretting over when they would announce the track number for our train then participate in the great cattle call in order to get settled in our seats in time for departure five minutes later! We have to say that technology is making all this easier with being able to pick the restaurant ahead of time off of Yelp!, getting there with Maps, and boarding the train with an e-ticket on the Amtrak app!
Fenton House and Spaniards Inn
A lovely way to spend a Sunday in Hampstead. We visited the historic Fenton House to view lots of lovely collectibles, to listen to and learn about harpsicords, and to tour and linger in the garden before heading off to the historic Spaniard’s Inn for a most delectable Sunday Roast.
