The Farmer’s Market

Family

Saturday mornings often find us at the farmers’ market in downtown Sylva. It looks like this too has been hijacked by the Ebbing name. We purchased a few provisions for ourselves and for Deck Day and spent a little time getting to know some of the newer vendors. As we were leaving downtown we drove past the burned out shell of the Ebbing Police Department.

Looks like the three minutes of Three Billboards slated to be filmed in Sylva have been completed. Parking is getting back to normal. Hopefully soon the usual traffic flow will resume. And we expect the interior of the furniture store will be renovated. Eventually the filming events will be but a memory.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
