Then Again

Road Trip

One of the advantages of traveling without reservations is the ability to change plans while enroute as we did today. After three hours on the road a bit of weariness set in. (And that’s after a late night last night and a few busy hours this morning preparing the house for our protracted absense.) At that point with the help of a couple of iOs apps, we set our sights for Indian Mountain State Park near Jellico TN. We were set up on site 17 in time to crawl into the T@B for a nap before a bodacious thunderstorm hit. Now we’re preparing a cup of green tea (the first use of our MSR backpacker stove) and to bring up the latest episode of Tiny House Nation while the rain continues to fall outside.  An advantage to this afternoon’s change of plans is that we’ll cut at least an hour off our total travel time to tomorrow’s destination of Paynestown SRA where we actually do have reservations!

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
