Just the Beginning

2016 Out West, Minnesota, Road Trip

Flowing out of Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota is a little stream known as the Mississippi River!  Karen ventured out onto the stepping stones inadvisably and now has thoroughly soaked shoes. After that we both peeled off shoes and socks and waded across. The water flowing downstream from here today will reach the Gulf of Mexico in about 90 days, about the time we will be crossing the Mississippi on the way back to Tween Creeks!  It’s fun to think that in the past seven months we have visited the banks of the Mississippi several times. We  started the year with breakfast at Cafe du Monde on the banks of the great river in New Orleans French Quarter and have camped on its banks several times this trip. Looks like the Mississippi is one of our themes this year!

And we did find a couple of geocaches here just as we did on New Years Day. Another theme?

Wicked The Musical

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
