Yesterday’s rain cloud did have a silver lining. We scored a state park campsite with electric. We’d been unsuccessful on Friday, not surprising since weekends in July are high season in northern campgrounds. On Friday we ended up at a KOA near Minneapolis and that did give us the chance to do laundry! Yesterday as we headed north out of Elk River we called ahead and discovered that the park at Little Falls did have a weather related cancellation and we were welcome to the one available electric site of one night. We could stay beyond that if we were willing to switch sites on Sunday. Sold! So we arrived and set up in the rain on #7 at Charles A. Lindberg State Park. This morning we moved to #1 for two more nights. The bad news, recent rains have caused the onset of mosquito season. The good news is that our yard guard spray and Thermacell units are keeping the little blood suckers at bay around our T@B although the portable unit isn’t effective enough for hiking. More good news is that the heat wave seems to have abated. We’ve worn jeans all day and even started the morning out with long sleeves. We did some housekeeping today and went into town for haircuts, a water pressure regulator, and charcoal. Tomorrow we plan to take Eric the Red into town for routine service. And we plan to explore the area some more before our visit here is finished.

Wicked The Musical

Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens

London’s National Portrait Gallery’s temporary exhibition, “Six Lives: The Stories of Henry VIII’s Queens” presents an amazing collection of portraits, jewelry, personal effects, books, costumes, and more to illustrate not only the lives of the six women who married the second Tudor king, but the effort across five centuries to keep their memory alive.

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

Caligula at Strawberry Hill

The purpose of our trek to Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham in the southwest of London was to see a recently recovered bronze bust of the Emperor Caligula but we discovered so much more in the recently restored 18th Century “little Gothic castle” built by Horace Walpole.
