Downstream Campground at Garrison Dam near Riverdale ND seemed a good choice for the weekend because they have a fairly large number of walk-in campsites and we didn’t have reservations. We arrived shortly after twelve and scored Site #4. As we were arriving we realized that there is a fish hatchery here that welcomes visitors so we went by after lunch for a visit. We learned so much more than we ever knew we wanted to know about the Pallid Sturgeon and the efforts to save this 65 million year old creature which was placed on the Endangered list in 1990. Our volunteer tour guides Darrell and Cori are amazingly knowledgeable about the hatchery operations and just a fun couple to boot. They travel the country in their fifth wheel RV volunteering in various places. And then we learned that Karen and Cori both lived in the same Kentucky neighborhood years ago!
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
