The AccuWeather promise of sunshine today wasn’t evident as we were packing up and preparing to depart this morning. It was under gray skies that we headed west on I-84 toward Gresham traveling between Historic US-30 and the Columbia River. We saw the Crown Point Vista House way up on its promontory overlooking the river. Photos of it have been among those that have graced our AppleTV screensaver since we were there in 2008. From Gresham we headed south along an incredibly scenic byway through the Clackamas Valley. Ultimately we settled in at Cougar Crossing in the Willamette National Forest under sunny skies. Initially we were the only ones here but before nightfall one other site at the opposite end of the campground was occupied.
Off the beaten path is Hampstead is the more than three hundred year old Burgh House with a fascinating history. It’s now a community center, local museum, gallery, concert venue, event space, and more open to the public four days a week. We popped over for a bite to eat and to peruse the galleries to learn a little more about Hampstead history.
Ever since its debut on Broadway the two of us have wanted to see “Wicked the Musical”. Today we realized that dream. In the Apollo Victoria Theater in London’s West End we were witness to the incredible prequel to The Wizard of Oz, the story of the Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
