Into the East

2016 Out West, Road Trip

Our first foray into Missouri cas come to an end. We’ve enjoyed the experiences we’ve had on this short visit and look forward to an opportunity to visit for a fortnight or more. We didn’t get the chance this trip to even visit St Louis much less dig into its history or try to uncover some family history there. There are many adventures yet to be had in the Show Me State but there are folks expecting us in Indiana and Ohio before we make tracks back to Tween Creeks. We’ve been exploring west of the Mississippi for some twelve weeks and it’s been fabulous. The time has come through to begin trekking through the eastern states for a while.

Imperial War Museum

Imperial War Museum

London’s Imperial War Museum in Southwark founded even as the First World War raged offers insights into the myriad costs of the wars of the 20th and 21st Centuries. It was a most disquieting but valuable reminder of the myriad costs of war.

London’s Canals

London’s Canals

The two of us have long been fascinated with the history of canals and their role in the history of transportation, industrialization, and more recently recreation. This stay in London has given us new opportunities to explore and learn more about how canals contributed to the growth of this great city and how they are being used and preserved today.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

It was a most educational visit to the newly renovated National Portrait Gallery at Trafalgar Square in Central London. We were intrigued with the contemporary approach to presenting British History.
